M: That's right. I first picked up a camera when I was seven, and went around a park takingphotos of street signs of all shapes and sizes. Luckily, I was able to get what turned out to be theprize-winning photo.W: Were you happy with the photograph?M: On the camera screen I could see the background scene was nice, but you couldn't see thewings of the butterfly clearly because of the size of the screen. It was only when I saw thepicture on the computer that I realized how good it was.W: Has anything changed for you since winning the competition?M: Well, before winning I'd been concentrating mainly on taking photos of people. Aftercoming to London for the exhibition and talking to all the other photographers, I intend totake photos of scenery in different countries.Text10M: I completed the Ten Tors Challenge in May. It was actually the third time I'd done it. Thefirst time I did the 56-kilometer route, the second time the 72-kilometer one, and then I didthe big one—walking 88 kilometers within two days. So what are the challenges? Youdon't follow paths; you walk on open ground, finding your way between the ten tors, orrough and rocky roads. And if the weather's bad, the visibility can be really poor. But youonly have a map and a compass—-you aren't allowed to bring phones. And you have tocarry everything with you, that's about thirteen kilograms of kit on your back. You train inall weathers—sunny, snowy and rainybecause nobody knows what the weather will belike on the day, and it can change in an instant. So much for the physical hardships—-whatabout the mental challenges? You sometimes feel like giving up, but you can't do that.finding it difficult to keep up. But the best bit is finishing.
